        The Panthers faced top level competition this past week, September 8 & 9, at the Austin Westlake/Westwood Team Tennis Tournament.  The Panthers opened with the Number 1 ranked 5A San Antonio Chuchill.  They would finish the weekend playing top 20 ranked 5A opponents Austin Westwood and Austin Anderson.  "We played great at times and our youth showed at times this weekend.  I am very proud of the players improvements, as they are starting to show higher levels of play.  As a team we have got to focus on putting the whole match together," Coach Simonek.

        Leading the weekend in doubles play was the freshman tandem of Frankie Allinson & Mitchell Myers.  "These guys are really starting to put it all together.  They are buying more and more into the doubles play and will continue to develop into an outstanding team," Coach Simonek.  Also playing well this weekend in doubles were the tandems of Fernandez/McCarter and Natividad/Rochelle.

        Leading the way in doubles for the pantherettes were Colleen Myers/Elizabeth Allinson.  "Myers & Allinson are making stronger commitments to doubles play each time they step on the court.  I am very excited about the progress they made this weekend," Coach Simonek.  The tandem won an exciting 3 set match against Anderson   2-6, 7-6, 6-3.  Also doing well for the Pantherettes were Rivera/Harrell, Alvarado/Luedtke, and the mixed tandem of North/Gilbert.

        The Panthers and Pantherettes also showed great heart and play in their singles matches.  Leading the way for the Panthers was Ben McCarter.  "Ben did a great job as a senior playing some tremendous 5A competition at number one singles.  I was very proud of him and the tenacity he showed on the court," Coach Simonek.  Also playing well for the Panthers in singles were Ross Natividad, Frankie Allinson, Chris Fernandez, Mitchell Myers, and Dustin Rochelle.

        Leading the way for the pantherettes in singles was Senior Magaly Rivera.  "Magaly does a great job of fighting through in her matches.  She works to find a way to win, no matter what the conditions are on the courts," Coach Simonek.  Also doing well in singles for the Pantherettes were Colleen Myers, Lindsey Harrell, Elizabeth Allinson, Amanda Alvarado, and Cat Luedtke.

        The Panthers will turn around and face another top 10 5A school, Georgetown this Tuesday.  The panthers will kick off the home match at approximately 5:00 p.m.
