Panther Tennis Team Defeats Lampasas
18 - 1 In District Opener
The Panther Tennis Team opened up District play this week with a 18 - 1 Bashing of the Lampasas Badgers. "District and Regionals is something that we have been preparing for all year. We have tried to schedule tough teams to prepare ourselves for the road ahead. The players did an awesome job in their opening District Match," Coach Simonek.
The Panthers swept through the doubles match play, taking all seven doubles matches. "We have had a lot of new faces playing doubles for us this year. It has been one of the areas that we continue to work on. It was great to see them step up and sweep the doubles today," Coach Simonek. Leading the way for the doubles teams was the tandem of Martindale/Harder. "These guys are becoming a great doubles team and have a great year ahead of them in Doubles," Coach Simonek. Winning matches in doubles for the Panthers were: Martindale/Harder, Hudson/McCarter, Palladino/Kidwell, Dunlap/Rivera, McCarter/Allinson, Foster/Myers, and the mixed doubles tandem of Harrell/Natividad.
The Panthers continued their momentum in the singles match play, taking eleven out of the possible twelve matches. Lizzie McCarter lead the way for the panthers with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Cofield from Lampasas. "Lizzie is doing a phenomenal job in Doubles and Singles this year. I am very proud of her and the preparation she puts into each week," Coach Simonek. Also winning matches for the Panthers in singles were: Zane Martindale, Jon hudson, Evan harder, Ben McCarter, Mark Palladino, Magaly Rivera, Brittany Dunlap, Saemmul Lee, Meredith Millard, and Amanda Alvarado.
The Panthers will play Georgetown next week at 4:00 in Georgetown. The Panthers will pick back up in District play the following week with Killeen Ellison. "The Georgetown match will give us a great opponent before we pick back up District play. It will help see how we are coming along in Doubles and give us some great matches in singles," Coach Simonek.
