Panthers Lose tough match 4-10

to The Lindale Eagles

The Panther Tennis Team lost a tough match 4-10 to the Lindale eagles this Thursday, September 1, 2005.  "We are working hard and developing, the positive about matches like this are that it shows us where we need to improve and the heart that the players have" Coach Simonek.

The Panthers fell behind early after doubles play.  "Lindale played great doubles and did many of the things we are striving for in doubles.  We will get there as we move further into the season.  The players will continue to work hard and develop into great doubles players," Coach Simonek.  The best match in doubles play was in women's doubles.  Magaly Rivera/Lindsey Harrell were down a set and 1-4 in the second set.  The doubles tandem stepped up every aspect of their play and came back to take the match in three sets 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.

The teams battled in the singles matches on all courts.  The Panthers really stepped up their play as they tried to dig out of the whole.  "I was very proud of the way our guys fought in singles.  They all went out on the courts determined to pull the team back into the match," Coach Simonek.  Winning matches for the Panthers before play was stopped were Elizabeth Allinson, Cat Luedtke, and Amanda Alvarado.  "Elizabeth played a great match fighting back from a one set deficit to win her singles in a third-set tie breaker.  It was great to see her come back and take the match from her opponent," Coach Simonek.

The Panthers will travel to Austin next week to compete in the Austin Westwood/Westlake Team Tennis Tournament.  They play in Austin on Thursday and Friday, September 8 & 9.
